Yanagawa Sunflower garden

Sunday, I went to see the sunflowers of Yanagawa, with two of my new friends from my yosakoi team. You are in Fukuoka this summer and are looking for a summer-ish daytrip not too far from the city ?  Here's a great idea!

There are not only canals in Yanagawa!

The Yanagawa Sunflower Garden opens its doors every year during the last two weeks of July, to the delight of thousands of visitors.

I hate summer and heat and I avoid as much as possible to expose myself to the sun so I had never been there before but as I had wanted to do a little daytrip somewhere in Fukuoka, not too far away, I choosed to go.

The day before, with Nagare (my yosakoi team), we had our post-festival party and by dint of chatting, two of my new friends learned my idea of going to Yanagawa and decided to come with me !

We left Fukuoka city at 10:30am but we arrived at the garden parking past noon. If the highway took us only 40 minutes, reaching Yanagawa took much longer about because of :
- the many traffic lights;
- people. We had to wait almost one hour before we could enter the parking area.

Open for only a few days each summer, the garden is really popular and the visitors are more numerous every year.
Fortunately because of the heat, nobody stays very long.

Facing the Ariake Sea, more than 500,000 sunflowers bloom at the Yanagawa Sunflower Garden.
Well, "garden" is a bit too much because it is actually a huge field, but it's still very beautiful.

I'm rather slow when the weather is too hot but being surrounded by those thousands vitamined yellow flowers gave me enough energy for the week.

What is nice is that there are not only paths that have been laid out in the field, but also that there are several high viewpoints. And the view was stunning.

We take pictures of the flowers while drinking the famous Japanese lemonade called ramune (ラムネ).
It had been a long time since I had drunk one and I had forgotten how difficult the opening system was (I dont have any strength).
For those who don't know what it is, ramune bottles are closed by a little ball which it is necessary to push down with a small pusher. It is really interesting and the drink is delicious.

In summary, it was a great day and I'm looking forward to go out more often with my friends and come again next summer.
