A propos de Fukuoka Kimono Walk
This project is aiming to show a different Fukuoka, far from the big modern city image, while making kimono more accessible.
In the third issue of my Fukuoka Kimono Walk, I went to the Shofu-en garden (松風園) located in the central district of the city, in the area of Hirao (平尾) .
Smaller than Rakusui-en, Shofu-en can be visited in only a few minutes. There is a large cherry tree in the center of the garden, a small path that goes around it, foam, pretty stones and old wood. What makes its charm is the traditional Japanese house, all tatami with sliding door and rice paper windows. It feels so nice to sit on the tatami and enjoy the peaceful nature. If you want to go to a Japanese garden without tourists you should go to Shofu-en. The place is quite popular for wedding photoshoots but otherwise there is often nobody. Good to know, the garden organizes tea ceremonies.
For this month, I wanted an atmosphere reminiscent Hina matsuri (ひな祭り), the Japanese doll festival which takes place on March 3rd.
I chose a girly with pink and yellow tones kimono with different cherry blossom patterns. I enjoyed this two-color kimono. It is very original and soft colors fitted well my spirit.
For the obi, I really wanted a red one. The dresser played with the obi by folds so we could see the yellow behind (sometimes these belts have two colors). If at first I thought it was awesome but looking at the pictures I don't think it looks this good.
For the hair, I just wanted a babyish hairstyle so I made twin tails with pink, red and white hair ornaments.
I'm not happy with this third issue.
The reason is simple: I was followed by a TV crew this month too. Because of that we were forced to receive an authorization for filming in the garden and we received the order to use it from 10:30am for 1 hour and a half. I didn't only have to hurry to shoot everything, including me,but the sunlight was terrible at this time of the day so all my pictures turned out bad.
See you next month
