This sunday, I spend a lovely time at Fukuoka's Moomin Cafe !
In Fukuoka, we are privileged to have one of the three Moomin Cafe of Japan, the other two are in Tokyo. it is very well located, in the Canal City shopping center, which is half way between Hakata station and Tenjin.
Fukuoka's Moomin Cafe is not just a cafe, but also a souvenir shop and a bubble tea stand.
Moomin Cafe is one of the place we went, with my boyfriend Daisuke, for our first date and we didn't have the chance to visit it again. As winter is here, we decided to go.
Why winter ? Because Moomin's world is a fantasy world and winter is the perfect season to enjoy it at the fullest.
Imagine : a warm and calm place with cute characters surrounding you and good food, where you can take a look at the outside illuminations.
Of course, everything was ready for Christmas; there were a lot of decoration and also stuff where you can put your wishes for 2015, a bit like at Tanabata time. We received our card, but bring it home.
While we were looking at some cute spoons, staff called our name and we enter into a magical world.
Because it is almost Christmas time, I ordered what i wanted to try for days : the "Christmas Suvénia Plate" (1 500 yens).
Aside the habitual food, cafe puts on sale special plates which allow you to taste a variety of desserts and which varies seasons to seasons.
This time I had :
- a cheese-cake with a berry sauce and a macha cookie;
- a creamy white chocolate;
- a 2 chocolates mousse (black and milk) with crunchy chocolate, raspberry chocolate and a cookie;
- a pudding with a macha cookie and a fruit whipped cream.
It was really big, but very delicious. I liked the cheese-cake the most. It was really creamy and the sauce was so good! I also like the raspberry chocolate and the pudding because it was easy to eat (I eat it at the end and was full at that time). On the other hand, I was disappointed to find a strawberry inside the whipped cream, but it is really personal because I hate this fruit. We joked, talking like they put it in the cream to see if I would eat it (it didn't work :)).
Everything is cute and presented in a lovely way, from the shape of cookies to the rose-shaped chocolate, as far at the raspberry powder on the cheese-cake which is in a shape of a Moomin character: Jolimie. And then, I don't forget the cute plate which is... included in the price!
Of course they give you a new one after you finished eating. I am so happy to have a lovely plate. I already have a Moomin mug so I am thinking about starting a collection.
Daisuke ordered a huge honey toast with berries (1,100 JPY). It is toasted bread served hot with ice cream, berries, whipped cream and served with some honey to put on the top. It was huge, but delicious.
We were happy because a staff member brings us a giant stuffed toy. The staff is always changing their place so everyone can have one stuffed toy on its table.
Good luck, we could meet a real Moomin (I know I am kind of childish).
Every week-end of December, cafe organizes games and photo shooting session with anime characters. We arrive while the last game was played, but we could take a picture with a cute Moomin (which was silly because he tickled me).
I really recommend this cafe if you are in Fukuoka for its great atmosphere, staff, good food and to those who want to spend a great time full of magic.
As we say in Moomin world: "moï-moï" (bye bye).
